Ingrid Vang Nyman
‘Every author who has been fortunate enough to find a congenial illustrator for their book, would be eternally grateful to that artist.’, said Astrid Lindgren.
Ingrid Vang Nyman was born in Denmark.
Following a couple of years at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, she moved to Stockholm in 1942. With a style characterised by distinctive colour fields, carefully chosen nuances and bold ink contours she worked quickly and to a high level of ambition. Always maintaining that children deserved the same level of quality as adults, she broke new ground with her illustrations for Pippi Longstocking, published in 1945.
